@spudnutsncoffee actually, they're both big time criminal, means they have that thingy psychologists call Criminal personality disorder. As long as theyre useful to one another, they'll watch each other's back. If one becomes useless or too problematic, he'll be killed by the other, and it wont even affect the killer. to verify it, Think of how Deniro's character in goodfellas, weighs the lives of his whole crew in an about 50 second scene ( when he's smoking in the bar )

The relationship between these two gents as portrayed in the film is so interesting. The love each other, but the hate each other...just like brothers. Such a fascinating study of a unique interpersonal relationship. I wonder if this is what these two guys were like with each other in real life. Sadly, we will never know, as both of the men portrayed in the film are dead.
