@MrDiabolicmuffin The US govt walks a tightrope when it invades nations with a view to exploiting their resources. Sure, they can devastate the locals with firepower, but that has numerous consequences like continuous guerilla attacks as we see in Iraq and Afghanistan. They mistakenly think that they can create a "villian" in the eyes of the locals & then terminate the villian with a view to winning over the locals. This may have worked in the 100 years ago, not today.

@VollyTyrannis Without war we would be "not at war". Pretty obvious, right? We would be in peace time. There would be other things to do. Other places to put our attention at. Heck, quality of life would most likely be better for everyone. As far as the Mark Bowden's qoute gotta read the entire section of the book to get why he said that in contrast to what. I can tell you right now it's not just aimed at "pacifistic hippies". Has to do with more.

The US has an amazing military, terrifying technology to back it up, but is handcuffed by a government that refuses to understand and come to terms with what is needed to reach the goals it sets. You can't tell an army to hold a country while they have to contend with a laundry list of rules and regulations... all you accomplish is creating an enemy that exploits the "rules" you force your soldiers to follow.

@MultiBombard Some people have no grasp of history. War has been a part of human nature since the beginning of our race.

@VollyTyrannis the streets with protest signs and calling to attention the great evil that is the "special interests" and government cronies who have haunted human society since the dawn of man. It is more effective to follow the examples set by Jesus, Gandhi, King, and others and try to change our government for the better through peace.

@VollyTyrannis Sorry there was a misunderstanding. I thought you were calling for the militias that are currently drilling in the U.S. and the other protesters in the liberty movement to start violently making war with the U.S. government. In which case, I would say, you're out of your goddamn mind. The government has such a powerful military of brainwashed patriots. We would be hard pressed to take them on with handguns, rifles, and being outnumbered. But if, through song and marching on

@metallica04100 First, I'm an American. I'm stating a fact here: We have some of the best technology, and the most amount of it. Before the Iraq War, the Iraqi Army was the fourth largest on the military; look what happened. No, WE have the better technology.
Second, I'm sure the Duke of Wellington might disagree. Or Napoleon. Or Leonidas. Or Eisenhower. Your examples only worked because they got popular support and were facing a not-so-harsh government. History is filled with counterexamples.

@VollyTyrannis We can't fight them with guns. They have us way outnumbered and outgunned. Their technology is better. We would simply be labeled terrorists and eliminated and then the ignorant masses would continue to be slaves to big government. Peaceful resistance and exposure of evil work better. Jesus of Nazareth, Martin Luther King, and Gandhi will tell you this and they got results.
